Random Christmas Memory #11
When I was about 10 or 11, we were at my grandparents' house for Thanksgiving. We were given explicit instructions- "yes, you may play upstairs, but no, you may not play in the front bedroom."
So... one of my smaller cousins wandered into the front bedroom before we could stop her. When she got all the way into the room, she froze. There were huge piles of wrapped Christmas gifts stacked high against one wall. She stood in shocked disbelief.
Knowing what we were up against, we started talking very fast. "You see... Santa is really busy on Christmas Eve, trying to get to all the little kids' houses. He'd never make it if he had to go to all the grandparents' houses, too. So, you see, Santa made a deal with grandparents. He drops off the presents at their homes early. That way he can get it all done in time."
What's more scary? That we thought it up? Or that she actually bought it?
