News From Home

So, FoxNews is on in the background while I'm getting some laundry folded (and they say girls go through clothes??) and I hear "Belleville, Illinois." Huh? Belleville? That's where I'm from.

I turn it up so I can hear what's going on. Not many details, but... 3 bodies were found in a local business. So, I'm watching... there's a news chopper circling the crime scene, police wandering all over, but it's a bad camera angle, so I don't recognize anything. It's not a little town, so... I need more details... Come on... tell me where in Belleville this is, I'm thinking to myself. "This business is in the 7800 block of West Main."

WHAT? West Main? You mean the same West Main where my grandmother used to live? The same West Main where my grade school and my church were? The same West Main that I rode up and down and drove up and down all the time? Yikes!

So, I do a little surfing, trying to get some info. Not much to be had, yet. Evidently, the police are being quite tight-lipped about all of this.
Belleville (KMOV) (don't bother clicking- you need to register, and I copy/pasted the "whole" article here)– Belleville police are investigating the discovery of three bodies inside a hair salon on West Main Street.

Authorities say that the victims were found in the business located in the 7800 block of West Main just before noon.

Police are not releasing any details about the victims or the circumstances of their death.

Numerous investigators are on the scene.
Wow. No idea who the victims might be. No idea why they're now dead. Not far from where I grew up.

I'll admit it. Although I love living in Texas, I still miss "home." Sure, I miss my family (they're all still up there), but it's more than that. St. Louis isn't really a pretty city anymore (although they're trying), but it's a fun city with plenty to do. And you can live in the burbs like we did and still be pretty darn close to all the fun, especially with the MetroLink running now. Professional sports, theater, history, the RiverFront, museums, small town picnics, the military, fish fries (sorry- had to be said) - it's all there. And it's great when I get to hear stuff about my old stomping ground.

Hearing your hometown's name on the news is cool. Unless it's something like this. (Mom and Dad are supposed to keep me updated- I doubt it will be on FoxNews much more).
