At Least They're Creative
Someone with entirely too much time on their hands did a survey, asking hiring managers some of the more unusual excuses people have given for not coming in to work. Here are the top responses.
Can you think of any more?
- Employee was poisoned by his mother-in-law.(I've heard of in-law strife, but... dang...)
- A buffalo escaped from the game reserve and kept charging the employee every time she tried to go to her car from her house. (Buffalo? A bull, I might believe... but a buffalo?)
- Employee was feeling all the symptoms of his expecting wife. (Doesn't that actually happen sometimes?)
- Employee called from his cell phone, said he was accidentally locked in a restroom stall and no one was around to let him out. (Just offer to let him out... then see what happens)
- Employee broke his leg snowboarding off his roof while drunk. (I think I know this guy)
- Employee's wife said he couldn't come into work because he had a lot of chores to do around the house. (That must be some Honey Do List)
- One of the walls in the employee's home fell off the night before. (Did it land on him or something???)
- Employee's mother was in jail. (That might be good for a story at the water cooler, but a day off? Not unless he was on his way to post bail... and then you'd want details later)
- A skunk got into the employee's house and sprayed all of his uniforms. (ew... casual day!)
- Employee had bad hiccups. (Unless they're Melmacian, I don't think so- unless he's a surgeon)
- Employee blew his nose so hard, his back went out. (Hey, now!! I've sneezed so hard I've thrown my back out.)
- Employee's horses got loose and were running down the highway. (Has to be true... to easy to verify by turning on the local news)
- Employee was hit by a bus while walking. (another one easily verified... )
- Employee's dog swallowed her bus pass. (Is that like "the dog ate my homework", but completely different?)
- Employee was sad. (uh... um... )
