Wars of Independence
OK... I goofed. I totally missed that yesterday was the anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto (the battle that ended the Texas War of Independence). Sam Houston's forces made mincemeat of Santa Ana's troops in all of 18 minutes. This is also where "Remember Goliad!" and "Remember the Alamo!" became famous.
I'd say, "Have a Shiner and celebrate!" but... I'm not a huge Shiner fan. (h't The Corner)
Also, since we're talking about wars of independence, let's chat a moment about the Revolutionary War. It's the topic of this article, which makes the argument that the war was the greatest example of a counter-insurgency failure ever. Interesting read.
